How Houndlink works

Houndlink connects local customers with local pros, one town at a time.

  1. Search a town. Pick your town and trade.
  2. Compare. See Google ratings, review counts and which towns each company serves.
  3. Request a quote. Ask a company you like from its page, or use the quote form on the trade page and one local company will pick it up.

Questions, answered

Is Houndlink free to use?

Yes. Search and compare as much as you like. There is no account, and homeowners are not charged.

Do you take a cut when I hire someone?

No. You send a quote request to the company you choose and work out the job with them directly. Houndlink does not take a cut of your job.

Where do the ratings come from?

Stars and review counts are Google figures stored for each company and refreshed weekly. Companies cannot pay to change a rating.

What does Featured mean?

Featured companies pay to appear at the top of their trade page, in a section labeled Featured. There are at most 5 per trade in each town. Payment never changes Google ratings or how other companies are listed.

Where does my quote request go?

If you sent it from a company's page, to that company. If you used the general form on a trade page, to one local company: a Featured company in turn, or the first claimed company to pick it up. It is never sent to a list of companies. Companies that haven't claimed their listing can't receive online requests yet.

Do you check licenses?

No. Houndlink does not confirm licenses. Ask any company for its license number and check it with your state's contractor licensing board. Each town and state page links to the right one.

Why isn't my town listed?

A town goes live once it has enough local companies to be useful. Type your town on the home page to join the waitlist.
